You may have noticed how every algebra, geometry, trigonometry, or calculus course you take seems to require almost every concept you ever saw in your previously Math courses.
Statistics is NOT like that!
A good understanding of the five related algebra and geometry concepts of proportion, probability, percentage, ratio, and fraction will go a long way in helping you to understand statistics.
My favorite college statistics textbook is pictured below.

EXAMPLE: Testing a claim about a proportion. Using a program on the TI84 calculator.
EXAMPLE: Testing a claim about a proportion. Using the statistical package STATDISK.
EXAMPLE: Testing a claim about a proportion. Using step-by-step calculator entry of a proper statistical formula.
The three images below are the "answers" I wrote onto a blank Elementary Statistics test the day I returned the graded tests to students.

Whether in class or in a tutor session, I like to slowly write complete answers as we proceed, often using a different color to distinguish each step.
