Things you should expect of me in a tutoring session

 

Concepts are introduced in Teaching, and applied in Homework or other Assignments. Ideally Tutoring fills in any gaps in understanding in order to successfully apply concepts properly to do assignments.

 

The job of a tutor is to help you through these gaps, either by seeing where you are stuck or by responding to your questions.

 

Beyond the smaller goals of understanding a concept or lesson, I can help you with longer-term goals for understanding an entire course or series of courses.

 

Because I have taught many students of a wide range of abilities in courses at all levels, I can help you with your longer-term goals in mathematics, from preparing to be a Math Major to mastering the minimum needed for a successful preparation for any other college major.

 

Every student has different ways and rates of learning. Some prefer geometric diagrams, others prefer equations. Some need only an explanation or a single example to understand an algorithm; others might need many examples to fully understand. I will accommodate to your own style as you wish.

 

Be assured that I will not discriminate on your level of knowledge or feelings toward mathematics, or, for that matter, on any other basis. I'll always treat you with respect and courtesy.

 

Having taught elementary college statistics and supervised other teachers, I know the best strategies for any student to study and experience success.
